Hello, and thanks for stopping by my website. My psychology practice, which has been in operation for over thirty-five years, seeks to productively blend generally accepted traditional forms of psychodynamic therapy with newer and scientifically proven techniques and strategies arising from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical-Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Relaxation Training (RT). The approach to treatment is holistic, and may be defined as biopsychosocial in nature. Therapeutic techniques and strategies are tailored to the specific needs of couples, families, and individuals across a broad age span.
THERAPEUTIC PARTNERSHIPS PROMOTE CHANGE: Central to my practice methodology is the formation of productive therapeutic partnerships based on mutual trust and respect. I have long admired those who enter therapy and engage in the sometimes arduous process of transforming their lives, not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of others as well. Effective therapeutic partnerships create a safe and confidential environment in which individuals, couples and families can comfortably discuss intimate personal issues without embarrassment or shame. Such partnerships provide a creative learning environment in which new and more constructive ways of reasoning, problem-solving, and behaving are developed and practiced before being tried out in real-life settings, after which they are reviewed, refined, and assimilated.
A COGNITIVE MAKE-OVER: As troublesome ways of thinking, perceiving, feeling and acting give way to more accurate and effective alternatives, gains in performance and achievement typically result. These, in turn, lead to enhanced personal well-being and self-confidence. Working together, former patients and I have resolved a wide variety of human adjustment issues associated with, say, ADHD, self-esteem, and performance anxiety in children and teens to challenges facing adults and couples that may arise from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal conflicts. Assisting individuals of all ages to face their personal challenges objectively in an effort to overcome them and go on to living productive lives has been the most gratifying part of my professional career. SHARING LESSONS LEARNED: It is my distinct pleasure to transmit valuable lessons learned long ago as a transatlantic graduate student from some of the leading developmental, cognitive, social and biological psychologists of the 20th century to those I now work with in therapeutic partnerships in the 21st century. I very much look forward to the opportunity to place my professional training and experience, which also includes a stint of several years on the faculty of Teachers College Columbia University as an Assistant Professor of Psychology and Education, at your disposal to help resolve your psychological challenges or those of a child or teen in your care. Please feel free to call or email my office to make an appointment or ask any questions you may have.
